"I bought it because it was $65 less than the factory cover for my 2010 SeaDoo Wake-Pro. I received it and put it on and was very impressed with the quality and fit. My SeaDoo sits next to my buddy's that bought the factory cover. He is very upset that he paid $200 and his cover looks cheap next to mine." Moose

Just a quick note to say thank you! After searching all over the web, I decided to buy the Poppy Cover for my 2000 Seadoo GTX. I was impressed when you answered the phone after business hours to help me with my questions. I usually do not blog, but your covers deserve recognition as being a great cover that fits like a glove and is AMERICAN MADE!!! . We travel to different lakes all summer and it has held up to all the wind and weather we have put it through. Thanks for your help and for making a truly great cover.

Regards,

What are you trying to protect your boat from?

If your boat has to sit outside and needs to be protected from the elements (sun, rain, wind, etc…) a cover constructed of good fabric is important. The fabric must be water resistant, fade resistant, mold and mildew resistant. It also should constructed in a way to vent trapped in moisture and to be fit well enough to stay on in windy situations. A pooling pole system will keep water from accumulating on you cover and then leaking through the fabric and filling up your boat.

If you are keeping it in the garage and need to keep the dust out, a cheap cover or bed sheet will do. But will you want your neighbors to see it, probably not.

Will your boat be trailered with the cover on?

A trailered cover should be fitted to your model. A general fit cover will flap in the wind when you trailer it. Flapping will cause wear to your cover and boat. The cover will mar you gelcoat. A cover should also be made of quality fabric so it doesn’t fade or the color doesn’t rub off or transfer on to your boat. A trailerable vent system is designed to pull the air out of the cover to eliminate billowing.

Will your boat be moored in the water or stored outside on a lift?

The way that you store your boat, either on a lift or teathered in the water will affect the way your cover needs to be designed. Your cover should be made of quality fade resistant, water resistant fabric. Your boat will receive tons of sun and weather so your cover should be made to protect it. A fitted cover with a pooling pole system will resistant pooling of water. A strapless design will insure it stays on without the hassle of getting wet while trying to secure a strap.

Fabric

Sur Last Solution Dyed Polyester is the best fabric for your cover. Its made here in the USA and held to very high standards. The fabric is fade resistant, water resistant, and the color will not rub off or transfer its color. The manufacturer of Sur Last® also makes Sunbrella®, also know in the marine industry for its superior fade resistant qualities. Sur Last fabric is the choice fabric of OEM covers for Yamaha, Honda, Polaris, Mastercraft, Baja, Bennington, Malabu and other high end manufacturers.

This construction allows Sur Last™ to be easily maintained. If you follow a few simple care and cleaning steps, the fabric will look good and maintain its fine qualities for many years.

Important Background:
Because SurLast™ fabrics are woven, they are also breathable. It's also important to know that Sur Last™ fabrics are treated with a fluorocarbon finish, which enhances water repellency. This finish requires replenishment after vigorous cleaning.

Polyester fabric will not support the growth of mildew. Mold and mildew needs "food" to grow on and polyester isn't desirable substance for mold. Dirt or dust on the fabric is a perfect "food" for mildew growth, which makes regular cleanings important. There is no set time for when fabric should be cleaned, and the local environment has a great deal to do with determining cleaning frequency. Cleaning is required less frequently in a dry environment than in a humid one with heavy foliage. Sur Last™ being a polyester actually has a finish applied to the fabric to detour mold and mildew growth but does not make it mold proof. Keeping fabric free of dirt is important to detour mold growth.

Cleaning:
One of the best ways to keep Sur Last™ fabrics looking good and to delay the need for deep or vigorous cleanings is to hose fabrics off on a monthly basis with clear water. This practice will help prevent dirt from becoming deeply embedded in the fabric and eliminate the need for more frequent vigorous cleanings. In most environments, a thorough cleaning will be needed every two to three years.
Sur Last™ fabrics can be cleaned while still on a frame or a boat or, size permitting, they can be removed for cleaning in a washing machine. (Wash in lukewarm water, air dry)

When cleaning Sur Last™ fabrics, it is important to observe the following:

Water should be cold to lukewarm. Never more than 100 degrees.

Air dry only. Never apply heat to Sur Last™ fabrics or put them in the dryer. If you are cleaning Sur Last™ while still on a frame or on a boat, follow these simple steps:

1. Brush off loose dirt and hose it down.
2. Prepare a cleaning mixture of water and mild, natural soap (no detergents).
3. Use a soft bristle brush to clean.
4. Allow soap to soak in.
5. Rinse thoroughly and air dry.

If stubborn stains persist, you can use a diluted chlorine bleach/soap mixture for spot cleaning of mildew, roof run-off and other similar stains. Please keep in mind that chlorine bleach will not change the color of your Sur Last fabric but chlorine bleach eventually breaks down the fiber of any fabric and this method should be used little as possible.

Prepare a special cleaning mixture:
Four ounces (half cup) of chlorine bleach.
Two ounces (one-fourth cup) of natural soap to one gallon of water.
Clean with soft bristle brush and allow mixture to soak for up to 20 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly and Air dry.
Repeat if necessary.

If top or boat cover is suitable in size for a washing machine, these steps should be followed:
Use only natural soaps. No detergent.
Wash and rinse in cold water.
Air dry. Never put your boat cover in the dryer

Re-treating the fabric:
As part of the finishing process, Sur Last™ fabrics are treated with a fluorocarbon finish, which enhances water repellency. This finish is designed to last for several years, but must be replenished after a thorough cleaning. Based on test results, Sur Last™ recommends 303 High Tech Fabric Guard™ as the preferred re-treatment product for Sur Last™ fabrics. Fabrics should be retreated after thorough cleaning or after five years of use. Check with your local Upholstery dealer or distributor for more information. :

Applying 303 High Tech Fabric Guard™ (Preferred Water Proofing Agent)
303 should be applied to Sur Last™ fabrics after each thorough cleaning, which typically removes the original fluorocarbon finish and reduces the fabric's water resistance. After cleaning the fabric, allow it to air dry completely and then apply 303 in a thin, even coat. After allowing the first coat of 303 to air dry, apply a second thin, even coating of 303. Two light coatings are more effective in restoring fabric water resistance than a single heavy coating. The 15-ounce bottle provides coverage of up to 50 square feet of lightweight fabric. Please keep in mind that 303 will only work as well as you apply it. This means that your fabric must be free of dirt and detergents or it will wash away with the dirt particles. If it is not clean, the water proofing agent will attach itself to dirt/bird poop/dust and simply wash off wasting your money.
With proper care and cleaning, you can expect excellent service and long life from Sur Last™ fabric and your Poppy Company Cover!

Customer Photos

Want to share a picture of your 'Doo? Make your Sea-Doo and cover famous!

Please post a picture along with the year and model so your fellow 'doo'ers and see what a Poppy Company cover will look like on their machine.
